Technical Visits

Wednesday, July 8 – Registration to the technical visits will only be available onsite. Please see the staff at the registration desk to secure your seat. All visits will depart from the convention centre at 1:30 pm and will return by 5 pm.

 

Technical Visit 1 – Institut Nazareth et Louis-Braille (INLB)

The Institut Nazareth et Louis-Braille (INLB) mission is to help people with visual impairments or deaf blindness to lead independent and fulfilling social lives by providing a range of rehabilitation services tailored to their needs. Nearly 45% of users of rehabilitation services in Quebec are served by INLB.

During the visit, you will learn more about the INLB and visit various facilities including ongoing research projects, the driving program with a driving simulator, intervention and research laboratory in orientation and mobility, laboratory of sensorial stimulation, low vision services, and adapted materials for orientation and mobility. This will be a unique opportunity to learn more about innovative projects and services as well as cutting-edge research that are the hallmarks of the Institute for 154 years!

 

Technical Visit 2 – MAB-Mackay Rehabilitation Center (MMRC)

The MAB-Mackay Rehabilitation Center (MMRC), providing specialized and ultra-specialized adaptation, rehabilitation, and social integration services to persons with a significant and persistent disability, is pleased to invite you to our center for a tour of our programs and services. Having the experience of working with four distinct impairment areas (vision, hearing, motor and language) we have the expertise in providing innovative, interdisciplinary and interprogram interventions. This comprehensive approach promotes the development of autonomy and independence in our clientele thereby promoting social participation. We are thrilled to take you on an interactive tour of our clinical programs where you can have the opportunity to meet the professionals who will discuss with you the subtleties/details of what makes our programs and services effective, some of which include: the Dual Impairment Program, the Multiple Impairment Program, the Rehabilitation Program in Specialized Schools, the Employment Program and the Adapted Low Vision Clinic. Technical Visit 3 – Mira Foundation

Come take a bus ride to one of the most beautiful parts of Quebec – enjoy the beautiful mountains of the Montérégie. Meet the staff of the MIRA Foundation, an internationally renowned guide dog for the blind and service dog school. You will see our dogs in action and will have the opportunity to be guided through our domaine: visit the veterinary clinic, the kennel, the adapted accommodations, and all of our other facilities. Our services will be explained and you will discover the extent of our various programs: guide dogs, service dogs for the disabled, and service dogs for children with disorders on the autism spectrum.

 

Technical Visit 4 – School of Optometry, Université de Montréal

The School of Optometry (ÉOUM) is considered an information centre and reference point for the general public, for professionals and for the university itself due to its recognized expertise in offering high quality education, clinical services and its high volume and excellence in scientific research.

The ÉOUM looks forward to introducing you to its programs and facilities. This will be your opportunity to see firsthand the originality of research that is being conducted here and to learn more about the best kept secret of the University de Montréal. See you soon!
